The Roundabout

Thursday, July 31, 2025

This week we’ve reached a significant milestone! The Roundabout is celebrating its first anniversary! We’re incredibly thankful for all of our supporters that have made this possible. We also want to share that we’ve hired a paid, part-time editor. Veteran journalist Chuck Nowlen is on board to lead our news coverage. He’s been a reporter and editor for the Capital Times in Madison and the Las Vegas Weekly, among other stops.

Leading our Roundabout lineup this week: a pair of Woodbury residents rallying for the right to raise backyard chickens, a lifestyle they say brings joy, sustainability and a touch of home. We’re also tracking the special election to fill the state Senate seat in the district that includes Woodbury. And we share a full slate of events at the Washington County Fair. For sure, there’s plenty to cluck about!

Group Wants Backyard Chicken Ordinance Expanded In Woodbury

Samantha Wolf misses the gentle clucks of hens roaming her backyard. A familiar scene, one she grew up with on a hobby farm in Wisconsin and later enjoyed while living in Minneapolis, where backyard chickens were part of daily life. But after moving to Woodbury four years ago, she learned that keeping chickens wasn’t permitted in her neighborhood.

Now, Wolf and fellow resident Rachel Pastick are leading a grassroots effort to change that.
