Woodbury Council, Residents Divided On How To Oppose ICE Facility

by Theo Franz | Published on April 23, 2026

Two days short of the four-month mark since news broke of a possible ICE detention center in Woodbury, the issue remains a priority at City Hall. Not over opposition, but how to oppose.

At Woodbury's City Council meeting Wednesday, residents again filled the chamber to push for a formal resolution opposing any future ICE detention facility, presenting a unified message that the city's proclamation issued April 8 was not enough, as resident Susan Asplin told the council.

“In the past month, community members drafted and presented a resolution… restricting the use of city property for federal immigration enforcement activities,” Asplin said, adding that more than 150 residents signed a petition supporting it.
