The Roundabout

Thursday, July 2, 2026

Good morning!

It felt like June lasted two weeks. But when I look back at the stories we covered, it begins to feel like I lived three months in one. Now onto July…

For this week's top story, three veterans in Woodbury took flight in a WWII-Era Stearman biplane in what Margaret recalls as “an emotional experience.”

We also cover a major child solicitation case, reminders about e-bike laws, and the latest updates on summer road construction across the city. And with the Fourth of July just ahead (one of my favorite holidays), we've also put together a comprehensive guide to celebrations, fireworks and holiday events throughout the east metro.

Thanks for spending part of your week with Woodbury News Net, and have a safe holiday weekend.

Above the Clouds: Woodbury Veterans Take Flight in WWII-Era Biplane

by Margaret Wachholz | Published on June 30, 2026

Three local military veterans from Woodbury Senior Living recently captured a bird's-eye view of the world from the cockpit of a World War II-era biplane.

On Monday, June 29, local veterans Delbert Case, Norman Lonn and Kevin Foster took to the skies through Dream Flights, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring military heroes, preserving their stories and reminding them that new adventures are always possible. To date, the organization has given flights to more than 8,200 veterans across America — and this week, it was Woodbury's turn.

Even with temperatures and heat indexes soaring well above 100 degrees, nothing was going to stop these three from the trip at Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie.

Gardening Blog: Growing More Than Vegetables

By: Terese Almquist

Many baby boomers can remember planting and caring for a garden with their parents. While the Great Depression was long over, their parents still saw the value of planting and eventually canning their produce. But over the years, canning and gardening fell by the wayside.
