The Roundabout

Thursday, July 23, 2026

Good morning, and welcome to this week’s Roundabout.

Starting with our top story, former Minnesota Sen. Nicole Mitchell has thrown her hat in the ring for what is looking to be a crowded City Council race in November.

We also have details on financial help for residents removing emerald ash borer-damaged trees, new road changes and the return of the Wounded Warrior Project’s Soldier Ride.

And if you need something a little lighter, fresh sweet corn season has arrived in and around Woodbury.

Enjoy!

Former State Sen. Nicole Mitchell Files for Woodbury City Council

by Theo Franz | Published on July 22, 2026

Former Minnesota state Sen. Nicole Mitchell has officially filed to run for Woodbury City Council, seeking a return to public office about a year after resigning from the Legislature following a felony burglary conviction.

Mitchell, a Woodbury resident and DFLer, represented Senate District 47 from January 2023 until July 25, 2025. She resigned one week after a Becker County jury found her guilty of first-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools. Her departure prompted a special election eventually won by Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger, who now represents the district.
