Good morning.
I have always considered Memorial Day weekend the official start to summer. Yes, the weather is one indicator, but there’s nothing like a three-day weekend of watching fast cars and parades. And with it being my golden birthday on Monday, it feels even more special.
But before you send yourself off to the cabin, catch up with what’s been going on in Woodbury! Manali Shah writes this week’s top story on East Ridge’s principal’s final term before retiring and the impact he left on a multitude of students.
Other stories for this week include Woodbury being ranked as one of the top cities to live in America, the state approving millions to the La Lake Park project, and how to help those vegetables grow big and strong.
Enjoy!

East Ridge Principal Jim Smokrovich Retires, Reflects On 11-Year Legacy
by Manali Shah | Published on May 19, 2026
Principal Jim Smokrovich sits relaxed in his chair as he answered questions about his years as the person in charge at East Ridge High School.
Wearing a jacket with the East Ridge Raptors logo, his demeanor was approachable and ready to assist. That’s how he is. Ready to help — be it a problem facing a student or a visitor asking directions in the maze of a 380,000-square-foot high school.
