The Roundabout

Thursday, November 27, 2025

This week’s Roundabout lands just after our first real taste of winter, with Woodbury waking up to fresh snow and another storm expected to roll in on Saturday.

With the busiest travel week of the year underway, please take it slow on the roads, whether you're heading across town or across state lines.

We also continue our coverage of major local developments, including the newly filed field for the District 47A special election, updates across city services and ways neighbors can support one another this holiday season.

As for me, I’ll be back home with my family, watching football and indulging in more snicker salad than any one person probably should. Whether your Thanksgiving plate leans turkey or ham (or you’re proudly going back for seconds), I hope the long weekend brings good food, safe travels and a little time to breathe.

Here’s what’s happening around Woodbury this week, starting with some fun pictures!

On the left, you’ll see Santa Claus on a James Bond-esque mission scaling the Fox Run Fire Station. Whether it be to deliver an early round of presents to the firefighters or to find a new red light to lead him through foggy Christmas nights, we wish him the best.

And on the right, a pair of googly eyes found themselves stuck on a structure in Hassenbank Park. A good reminder that there are no rules. (Credit/Manali Shah)

Field Set for District 47A Special Election as Three DFL Candidates Enter Race

by Beth-Ann Bloom | Published on Nov. 26, 2025

With Sen. Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger’s election, her vacant House seat in District 47A will now be filled by voters from South Maplewood and eastern Woodbury.

The special election is scheduled for Jan. 27 so that the new representative will be present when the legislative session begins.

Three district residents have decided to run for the seat. Since they all filed as members of the DFL, there will be a primary held on Dec. 16. All of them are first-time candidates who will also be vetted by the Democratic-Farmer-Labor party at its endorsing convention the evening of Dec. 3.
