The Roundabout

Thursday, May 7, 2026

Good morning!

In this week’s newsletter, we are leaning a little more into the business side of things, starting with an update on the theft charge surrounding the sale of two Duck Donut franchises.

Also, for those who missed our Out & About newsletter on Tuesday, Woodbury’s city-wide garage sale starts today! I plan to scoop up some treasures for friends and family and add to my needless collection of snow globes and sports memorabilia.

For those looking for a movie to watch, movie critic Hunter Friesen has two reviews: a movie about a flock of murder-solving sheep and the other an Irish folk horror film featuring Adam Scott (founder of Cones of Dunshire).

Enjoy!

Theft Charge Against Former Franchise Owner Dismissed

by Pat Mack | Published on May 05, 2026

One count of theft by swindle filed in Washington County District Court against Justin A. Butler of Woodbury has been dismissed. The case revolved around financial documents in the sale of two Duck Donut franchises.

Wade Kish, assistant county attorney, filed a motion with the court April 1, dismissing the criminal complaint with prejudice “by agreement of the parties, in the interests of justice.”

In an email to Woodbury News Net, Kish added: “The dismissal was part of a settlement that was reached by the parties. I’m not able to elaborate more on the details, other than to advise that this settlement and dismissal was fully approved by the victims in the case.”
