Roundabout: Out & About
Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025
Good morning!
This week in Out & About, we’re taking a look at “Roofman,” a darkly funny true-crime story about a McDonald’s bandit who turned 45 roof-cut robberies and a year living inside a Toys “R” Us, into one of the strangest redemption tales put on screen.
But if your weekend plans are less criminally inspired, there’s plenty to do around town. Families can get lost in corn mazes, paint pumpkins, or catch Dracula under the fall sky. And don’t miss the Evergreen Hill Pumpkin Patch in Cottage Grove, where autumn is in full swing across four acres of gourds, squash and cider smiles.
Take a look around, spooky season’s already knocking. 🎃

'Roofman' Charms As A Tragic Comedy About Living in a Toys ‘R’ Us
By Hunter Friesen | Movie Reviewer
How many McDonald’s do you think you’d have to rob to afford a nice house, birthday presents for your kids, and a tidy nest egg for the future?
Luckily, you don’t have to answer that, because Jeffrey Manchester (Channing Tatum) already made that calculation for us. It turns out that 45 robberies will do the trick, with the best success coming from cutting a hole through the roof. That’s how he got his titular nickname and became a local celebrity during his spree from the late ‘90s and early 2000s.
