Roundabout: Out & About

Tuesday, November 18, 2025

Good morning!

With the holidays approaching, this week’s Out & About is all about the many ways Woodbury residents can give back, from food shelf donations to toy drives and community meals.

You’ll also find a full lineup of seasonal events, from craft fairs to cookie painting to the annual Woodbury Wobble 5K. However you choose to jump into the season, there’s plenty around town to make it meaningful (and a little fun, too).

How Woodbury Residents Can Give Back This Holiday Season

By: Beth-Ann Bloom

As it gets darker and colder, it feels important to reach out to our struggling neighbors and help with basic needs like food and clothing. Our community also shares joy by making sure that kids get new toys and pets get treats. Together the people of Woodbury can make a difference to folks in need and to the givers as well. Here are opportunities to give back during this holiday season:

Fun Fact

Bird experts doubt that wild turkeys were plentiful in Minnesota until after Europeans arrived. Unregulated hunting and habitat loss reduced the number of turkeys to near extinction by the early 1900’s.
Several attempts at reintroducing the birds failed, but between 1971 and 1973, 29 turkeys were captured in Missouri and released in southern Minnesota’s Houston County. The birds thrived and moved northward. Approximately 70,000 wild turkeys live in Minnesota now.
Despite the statements proclaimed on “WKRP in Cincinnati”, turkeys can fly. They spend their nights roosting in trees away from predators. They can fly about a mile at speeds up to 55 mph.
