Fun Fact
With road construction season receding in our collective rearview mirrors, it is a good time to learn that pavement came to Woodbury much more recently than to other places.
The first blacktop road in the U.S. was a practice strip in New Jersey laid down in 1870. Shortly thereafter Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., running between the Capitol and the White House, was blacktopped.
It would be 65 more years before the first blacktop road in Woodbury was paved. It was Afton Road extending eastward from Century Avenue to Woodbury Drive.
